Breaking News: Region 7 just held a very successful Leadership Retreat! A big thank you goes out to our faculty: Dr. Leslie Galbreath and Dixie Dahlke. Donna Turk, one of the attendees from RiverSong sums up the weekend very well:
"If you didn’t attend the leadership retreat on June 12-14th, you really missed out on some valuable training for your chorus leaders and members. After a hiatus of 3 years, I am back on the RiverSong leadership team as the Marketing Coordinator. I’ve attended regional “leadership retreats and administrative retreats” in the past and to be honest, other than for spending time with my friends, I wasn’t really looking forward to it. I was so wrong! Right from the very start we were motivated and challenged. There was a different feel about the entire retreat. It didn’t matter what chorus you were in, there was a sense of anticipation, cooperation, and education. We didn’t have boring classes that you couldn’t wait to end. There was no watching the clock to see if it was time for a break or close to lunch or dinner time. Our Regional Management Team chose Dr. Leslie Galbreath to use her talent and education to facilitate this leadership retreat. Leslie introduced a topic and let us talk. She answered questions and lead us in the right direction when we strayed. We learned what leadership is and what our individual leadership style is. Now I know why I can work so easily with some people and struggle when working with others! We also found out what our learning style is and why that is important. We learned the importance of goal setting and strategic planning and in making sure that the chorus always buys in. We learned how a team works and how our chorus leadership team and/or board needs to function to be of benefit to our chorus. We talked about networking and sharing information. We were inspired. There were very few rules – keep an open mind, participate, understand that there were no wrong answers and honor and respect all other participants. Our Region 7 RMT participated right along with us. There is a new feel in our region and it’s a good feeling. We learned, we laughed, we loved and there were even a few tears. Thank you Region 7 RMT and Leslie for providing us with such a wonderful weekend of learning and fun. If your chorus was not represented at this retreat, you missed so much."

Barbershop is four-part, unaccompanied, close-harmony singing, with melody in the second voice, called the "lead." Sung in the range between A below middle C, and C above middle C. Tenor is a harmony part sung consistently above the lead. Although tenor is the highest voice in barbershop harmony, it should not be confused with the soprano of conventional singing groups. The tenor should have a light, sweet, pure tone that will complement but not overpower the lead voice. Baritone covers approximately the same range as lead. The baritone harmony notes cross the lead notes; sometimes sung below and sometimes above. Bass singers should have a rich, mellow voice and be able to sing the E flat below middle C easily. Bass should not be confused with the alto of conventional groups.
